Digitalizing Maintenance: Greater Efficiency with connectavo

Maintenance Work Keeps Buildings, Vehicles and Infrastructure Ready for Operation, Minimizes Maintenance Costs and Secures Supplies.

An important aspect is the safety of staff and users. It goes without saying that all related jobs are best done with digital support, i.e., from specialist software.

Maintenance has been an important issue in industry for many years now. Production facilities are cost-intensive, so high availability and long running times pay for themselves. This is why WAFIOS AG from Reutlingen purchased the "connectavo – The Digital Assistant" maintenance platform from the startup of the same name in 2019 and set about developing it further. "Our main focus was on offering our machine customers a comprehensive maintenance solution. Besides, we have the same requirements ourselves when it comes to our own machinery," explains Dennis Griesinger, Head of Digital Services at WAFIOS. "It quickly became obvious to us that the maintenance jobs needed on production machines are not fundamentally any different to those in municipal infrastructure and utilities. Industrial companies and municipal utilities are very similar. So to us, it just makes sense to offer connectavo as a universal maintenance solution to municipalities too."

Fast response to unscheduled malfunctions

Without exception, every asset can be represented in connectavo with specific maintenance requirements – both scheduled and unscheduled events. The software simply needs to be populated with the relevant assets.

For municipalities and municipal utilities, that would be all equipment in the supply and disposal infrastructure requiring monitoring and relating to safety, various public buildings such as gyms, swimming pools, the town hall, schools, nurseries, building yards, the sewage treatment plant, fleet vehicles and so on. Related jobs include planning the cleaning work in all these buildings and maintaining green spaces, for example. All the associated jobs can be digitalized using connectavo. Last but not least the software contains a cost management function, which ensures that expenditure is transparent.

Independent thanks to the app

The software shows the municipal infrastructure as a tree structure. Documents, maintenance plans, images, etc., can be saved for every item. Users can individualize assets and assign them to specific responsible employees. There is also an option to conduct various analyses, e.g., to compare individual assets in terms of their downtimes and costs. All the actions that have been taken can be saved in histories.

connectavo is a cloud-based solution. The servers are located in a dedicated data center with appropriate security provisions. Users log in to the system via a browser or a smartphone app (Android, iOS). With the latter, users can log in from wherever they happen to be. The system sends individual reports as required so the responsible people are always kept up to date. Conversely, processes can be initiated from outside too, such as damage reports or requests to purchase consumables.

Individual adaptations

Data is imported into the system in the form of a CSV file. The user simply has to add their data to the prepared file. "If large volumes of data are involved, we support customers during the onboarding process," adds Griesinger. "But the software has been structured in such a way that users can basically maintain their own data. They can grant permissions and rename categories, for example – in short, they can customize the system to meet their needs."

WAFIOS can develop and implement individual interfaces from the municipal field on request. Since the platform was acquired, the development team has been housed at WAFIOS head office in Reutlingen. The first municipalities are already using connectavo for their wastewater management. All users benefit from the large workforce, who are responsible for further developing the software and providing support. "New customers will be investing in a futureproof solution for their maintenance work," says Dennis Griesinger. "We would be happy to present the system online to anyone who is interested. And after that, we can give them access on a trial basis too."
